Over half term, I have experimented further with darkroom processes in order to teach these to Year 12 as part of their threshold concepts project. Having already practiced some 'camera-less' techniques I wanted to develop these further with the group & develop their knowledge of alternative techniques.
This also allowed me to develop my own subject knowledge as I hadn't applied this technique before in my own photographic practice. I came across the technique on Facebook & following more research on the practice I attempted my own Phytograms.
This process involves using a mixture of 250ml water, 2 tsp of soda crystals & 1 tsp of vitamin C. These are then combined with natural objects such as leaves, which when dipped into the solution & placed onto photographic paper leave imprints. I was advised to choose leaves/flowers that held an interesting shape & to ensure all excess liquid was removed prior to the objects being placed on the paper. This allowed for a clean image to be transferred using the phytogram solution.
Below are my trials for phytograms & I am excited to share this with my shared year 12 group.
